The redevelopment of one of Budapest’s most valuable corner plots – a 677 m² site that stood vacant from 1990 – was the subject of architectural debate for decades. Even following a large-scale international architectural competition in 2008, involving more than fifty design studios and concluding without a winning entry, the future of the site remained unresolved for years. Ultimately, the distinctive hotel concept by Ybl Award-winning architect Anthony Gall, of Australian origin but closely connected to Hungary, was realised with the involvement of our office. Construction of the 86-room boutique hotel commenced in 2016, based on the unique architectural and interior design vision of architect and interior designer Ákos Bara. The elegant yet boldly expressive hotel was completed and opened in April 2018. Since then, our office has also contributed to the design of the Leo Rooftop Bar.
